Edward "Ed" Beno

Edward J Beno, 86, passed away Saturday March 11, 2017. Ed was born on July 27, 1930 in Green Bay to the late August and Lucille (Nys) Beno. In 1948, Ed graduated from Central Catholic High School in Green Bay, WI. He received his Bachelor of Business degree from Spencerian College, Milwaukee, WI. After college he enlisted in the military serving in the Army and was a Korean War veteran. Ed considered it an honor to serve his country and was proud to have participated in an “Old Glory Honor Flight” trip to Washington DC in April 2016 with his son Dan. On October 7, 1961 he was united in marriage with Lois Gustafson at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay, WI. They were blessed with four children. For 32 years, Ed worked at Kerscher Metal Service Company - which later became Temperature Systems Inc. He held various financial positions before retiring in 1991 as Executive Vice President and General Manager. As a manager, he always felt his fellow employees were like family which made his job easier. He was grateful for the lasting relationships with co-workers, customers and vendors developed over the 32 years. Ed was a man of faith. He was member of Resurrection Catholic Parish for 50 years. He was very active in the Resurrection community having served as an usher, President of the school board and many years on the finance committee. Ed was one of the first members of the lay Eucharist Ministry program in the Green Bay Catholic Diocese. Family was very important to Ed. He enjoyed spending time with family at their cottage on Yankee Lake near Crivitz, WI. Later in life, he liked attending the many activities of his five grandchildren. He was proud of his Belgium heritage. For many years he was the Secretary and Treasurer of the Beno Family Organization. Ed and Lois traveled the world with very special friends and spent winters in Tucson and Chandler, AZ. His hobbies included gardening, coin collecting and of course being an avid Packer fan. Ed will be sadly missed by his wife, Lois. Children, Jodi Beno, Nancie Beno, Daniel and wife Stacy Beno. Grandchildren, Jason Beno, Nicholas Beno, Jacob, McKenzie and Brooke Beno. Sister Jeanette Schaller (Tucson, AZ). Sister and brothers-in-law, Katie Beno (Green Bay), Tony Alef (Sun City, AZ), Ron and Pat Gustafson (Green Bay), Patsy O’Connor (De Pere), Gary and Ilene Gustafson (Green Bay) and Bonnie and Michael MacDonald (Green Bay). In addition, many loving nieces, nephews, friends and especially the longtime friends from Kenney Street. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Carrie F. Beno; brother Donald Beno; sister Dolly (Lucille) Alef; brother-in-law M.F. (Bud) Schaller; brother-in-law Larry O’Connor; nephew Craig Beno; mother and father-in-law Eino and Evelyn Gustafson. Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, on Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm with a parish prayer service at 6:30pm. Visitation will continue on Friday, March 17, 2017 at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Dr., Allouez from 9:30am to 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Ed at 11:00am with Bishop Robert Morneau officiating. Entombment in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. Online condolences may be sent to www.cotterfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers a memorial in Ed’s memory will be established. The family extends sincere gratitude and special thank you to Dr. Philip Lane Goolsby, his nurse Tracy and the entire staff at Aurora – Willows Clinic for the years of love and dedication shown to Ed. A special thank you to St. Vincent hospital, Odd Fellow and Woodside Lutheran Home for their care and support.
