Edna Agnes Bartels Verhoven passed away peacefully on May 18,2018 at the age of 85. She was born on December 27, 1932 to her late parents Emma and August Bartels. She resided with her family in Little Rapids, WI until her marriage to Benedict (Dick) Verhoven on July 2, 1952. They were married at St. Boniface Catholic Church in DePere. Most of their married life was spent on the family farm in rural De Pere where they worked hard side by side to make a living for our family. Mom and Dad instilled in us hard work, honesty, modesty and a caring attitude.
After retirement, they enjoyed traveling to parts of the United States and overseas. When they couldn’t travel much anymore due to Dad’s health, Mom worked for a time as a food demonstrator at grocery stores. More exiting was her time as a TSA Security officer at the Austin Straubel Airport. Oh, what stories she would tell of the Packer players as they came and went through security on game days.
Dementia didn’t prevent her from participating in the many activities offered at Country Villa where she lived for the past year. She is remembered by those who knew her for her whit, charming smile and pleasant attitude.
Edna is survived by her children: Judy (Wayne) Bodde, Kaukauna; Kenneth (Joanne) Verhoven, Three Lakes; Susan Verhoven, Campellsport; Carol Verhoven, Seymour, Nancy Kalies, Rhinelander: Debra (Dennis) Hermes, Seymour; Martin (Marty) (Sue) Verhoven, Rockford, MN; 13 grandchildren, 7 step -grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and 7 step- great grandchildren; sister Bernice Verhoven, brother Harvey (Judy) Bartels; sister-in-law, Rosemary Bartels and brother-in-law, James (Rita) Brochtrup. Many nieces and nephews. And, not to be forgotten was her special relationship with Virgil Thiele, De Pere.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dick; son, Ronald Verhoven; son-in-law John (Jack) Kalies; parents, Emma and August Bartels; in-laws Gertrude and Martin Verhoven; sisters; Linda Krause and Rachel Kempen and brother, Joseph Bartels. Brothers-in-law, Sylvester (Ves) Verhoven, Donald Verhoven and Robert Meulemans. Sisters-in-law; Joann Verhoven, Dorothy Meulemans, Anna Marie Madrid, Germaine Verhoven, Mary Jane (Jeannie) Lindner and Elizabeth (Betty) Brochtrup.
Special thanks to the very special staff of Country Villa Assisted Living. Also, thanks to St. Vincent Hospital, following her stroke and Heartland Hospice Care.
