Dr. Joseph Grace died April 19, 2011. Joe was born on June 25, 1924, in Huron, South Dakota to Ellen and John Grace. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary Lloyd and Frances Melanson. On August 6, 1955, Joe married Julie Lawler in Rochester, Minnesota. Joe served in the US Army Air Force during World War II as a Navigator-Bombardier in the Pacific Theater. With the help of the GI Bill, he was able to attend college and medical school, graduating in 1950 from Northwestern University. He completed a four year residency in Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic and received a Masters Degree in Physiology from the University of Minnesota. In 1956, Joe moved to Green Bay and joined the Green Bay Clinic, where he practiced for 38 years, retiring in 1994. Joe served as President of the Wisconsin Society of Internal Medicine and the Brown County Medical Society. Through the years, he was Chief of Staff at Bellin, St. Mary’s and St. Vincent Hospitals, as well as a member of many boards. He is survived by his wife, Julie; and five children: Mary (David) Browning and their children, Andrew, Christopher, Sheila and Molly, Cleveland, OH; James (Catherine) and their children, Emily, Margaret, Maura, Patrick and Daniel, Green Bay, WI; Katherine (Ralph) DeAngelis and their children, William and Grace, Clarendon Hills, IL; Sheila Grace and her children, Jack, Sarah and Thomas, Clarendon Hills, IL; and Sarah (Thomas) Adriansen and their children, Anthony and Julia, Eden Prairie, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Monday, April 25, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Drive, Allouez. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, April 26, at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m., with Bishop Robert Morneau and Father Michael Byron officiating. Cotter Funeral Home, De Pere, is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to N.E.W.
