Dorothy M. (Triebel) Van Gompel, 90, De Pere, was welcomed into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father and reunited with her husband, Ken, on Friday, April 17, 2015. She was born in North Fond du Lac, WI, to the late Edward and Elsie (Kriplean) Triebel on October 31, 1924. Dorothy was united in marriage to Kenneth Van Gompel on February 7, 1948 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Green Bay. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the parish Altar Rosary Society. Dorothy’s married life was devoted to the care of her family. Her strong faith, integrity and dedication never wavered through the difficulties of caring for 2 children with Cystic Fibrosis, and Ken after his stroke in 1990. She enjoyed time with family, watching birds, playing cards, and Green Bay Packer and Milwaukee Brewer games. Survivors include her three children: David (Connie) Van Gompel, Solon, OH; Mary Lou Kramer, Bristol, CT; and Susan (Dan) Ascher, Sobieski; four grandchildren: Jeffrey (Tami) Van Gompel, Jessica (Dan) Wellwood, Michael (Emily) W. Van Gompel, and Jeanna Kramer; five great-grandchildren: Tyler and Brooklyn Van Gompel, Jack and Natalie Wellwood and Matthew Van Gompel; one sister, Marlene Triebel, Green Bay; one sister-in-law, Elaine Wrobel, Madison, WI and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Ken, Aug. 28, 2012, daughter Jean (age 4), and son James (age 31). Family and friends may visit at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan St, De Pere, from 9:00am until 10:45am on Tuesday, April 21. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Tuesday with the Rev. Judah Pigon, MF officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, De Pere. Cotter Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family. Online condolences at www.cotterfuneralhome.com . In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Dorothy’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at the Renaissance Assisted Living Community for their care and concern for her the last three years, and also to the staff of Unity Hospice.
