Doris Marguerite (Goehring) Vandello

December 23, 1922 — January 16, 2018

Doris (Goehring) Vandello, 95, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2018 at a local hospital. Doris was born on December 23, 1922 in Iron Mountain to the late Leonard and Hazel (Nauman) Douglas. Her family moved to Jim Falls when she was a child. She graduated from Chippewa Falls High School and later went on to attend college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She married Merlin Goehring on June 19, 1942 in New Orleans. Their honeymoon was a three hour cruise on the Mississippi before Merlin had to report for duty with the U.S. Navy. Together they had five children. The early years of their marriage, Doris was a housewife and stay-at-home mom. Later she returned to college and received an education degree at UW- Oshkosh. She taught 1st grade at Denmark Elementary for six years before Merlin was transferred to Marinette. There she went back to school and received an associate degree in office management. She worked for Dr. Ken Yuska as his office manager until she retired in 1988. Sadly, Merlin preceded her in death in 1987. Doris loved to sew and learned to quilt during retirement. She started spending winters in Florida. There she met widower Richard “Dick” Vandello, whom she later married. They traveled as much as their age allowed, taking cruises, bus tours, and using their timeshares. Summers were spent in Wisconsin, reuniting with their children and grandchildren. Doris will be greatly missed by her children: Tim (Elaine) Goehring; Steven (Beatrice) Rose; Richard Goehring; and Heidi Goehring; step-son, Don (Mikel) Vandello; grandchildren: Douglas (Jeri) Goehring and Mariah Goehring; step-grandchildren: Ken Vandello and Chris (Valerie) Vandello; great-grandchildren: Nick and Brooke Goehring; step-great-grandchildren: Carson Vandello; Sam Vandello; and Hayden Vandello. She is preceded in death by husbands Merlin Goehring and Dick Vandello; daughter, Lydia Goehring; and grandson, Dale Goehring. Family and friends may call at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave, De Pere, on Thursday, March 29, from 4:00pm until the time of service at 7:00pm with Pastor Steve Apfel officiating. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com.
