Doris M. (Kane) Halbrook, 79, of Green Bay, was welcomed into heaven on Monday, Aug. 16, 2010. Her greatest happiness in life was her family and friends, who she lovingly devoted her life to. Doris was born May 5, 1931, in Maribel, WI, to the late Bernadine (O’Hearn) and Thomas Kane. She attended Hickory Grove Grade School, and graduated from Denmark High School and Manitowoc Teacher’s College. On August 22, 1953, she married James L. Halbrook at St. James Catholic Church, Cooperstown. After receiving her teaching degree at the age of 18, Doris started teaching at the one room Hickory Grove Grade School, where she taught many of her brothers and sisters, cousins, and friends. Besides raising her children she also worked with her husband at Jim’s T.V. Appliance, and more recently worked for her son at Tim Halbrook Builders Inc. Doris was always concerned with how everyone else was doing and had a unique way of touching everyone with her kindheartedness. She was considered a saint by her family and friends. Survivors include her loving husband of 62 years, Jim; five children: Susan (David) Bartel, Ami (Russ) Carpenter, Bethe (Bill) Wright, Tim (Paula) Halbrook, Mary (Phil) Hudson; grandchildren: Jennifer (Joshua) Abel, Jon and Nick (special friend, Sami) Bartel, Meg and Troy Carpenter, Josh and Whitney Wright, Jessica Halbrook, and Helen Hudson; her first great-grandson, Jaymes Abel; brothers: Robert (Laverne) Kane and Thomas Kane Jr.; sisters: Mary (Jack) Roberts, Dorothy (Ron) Van Patten, Lucille Kane, and Bernadine (Bill) VanDeYacht; and many other relatives and friends. Family and friends may call Friday, August 20, 2010, at St. James Catholic Church, 18228 County Road. R, Cooperstown, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the church on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Ron Colombo officiating.
