Donna M. Justman

Donna Mae Justman, 71, De Pere formerly of Appleton passed away on December 27, 2014. Donna was born June 6, 1943 to the late Peter and Bernice Kawleski in Stevens Point, WI. Donna grew up in Stevens Point, graduated from Maria High School then continued her education at Badger Business College in Green Bay, WI to pursue a secretarial degree. It was during her time in college that she met James (Jim) Justman, the love of her life. In their early years together, while establishing their careers, Donna and Jim moved frequently; settling in Shawano, Sheboygan, Green Bay and Appleton. It was in Appleton where she raised her children. Over the years, in addition to working at Lawrence University and other places, Donna spent much time volunteering on her kids’ fieldtrips and made sure they knew how much she loved them. Later in life, her grandchildren became her pride and joy. Donna enjoyed attending church with them, cheering them on at sporting events and watching their concerts. In the early 90’s she returned to Stevens Point and reconnected with friend and rediscovered her love of the outdoors and her love for the community. Some of Donna’s favorite stories included her dog, Norton, and the many walks they took in the area to see wildlife and also how the ducks knocked on her patio door for bread. Donna loved Stevens Point and loved sharing stories of her youth growing up with her siblings near the Wisconsin River. She would laugh as she described how she and her sisters would fight over washing the dishes and who got the hand-me downs. She loved her brother and sisters dearly. It was an on-going tradition and competition over the Christmas season with Donna and her sister Sandi on “who saw the lights on the dam” first. Donna was so thankful to take a vacation to Switzerland with Sandi. Donna always wanted to make pickles for Dave during deer camp and she so enjoyed her trip to Arizona, and the casino, where she was able to visit with Vicki. In 1999, Donna and Jim resettled back in Appleton where Donna was quick to make new friends and spent hours volunteering at the Paper Discovery Center. She enjoyed game day with friends, bike rides, swimming and going to the YMCA. She and Jim enjoyed vacations up north and Donna loved their visit to Oregon to see their son Jeff. Donna is survived by her children, Jodi (Mark) Van Remortel, Jeffery Justman and step son Scott (Jessy) Justman. Grandchildren Sophie, Victor and Dax. Brother David (Carol) Kawleski, Sisters Vicki (Gene) Burke and Sandi Mond, many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Her husband Jim, parents, mother and father-in-law, Ed and Viola Justman and brother-in-law, David Mond, preceded her in death. Family and friends may call Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 2335 S. Webster Ave., Green Bay, with the Rev. Joshua Errer officiating. Donna will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Gardens, Appleton. Cotter Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family.
