Donald C. Nohr of Denmark, Wisconsin passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on January 16, 2021 with his wife, Audrey, at his side. He was born on September 5, 1926 to the late Leonard and Josephine (Hussong) Nohr in Morrison, Wisconsin.
When Don was 17, he drove the local school bus for the family business, and it was at that time when he met the love of his life, Audrey, who was 16 at the time. After he graduated from De Pere East High School, Don joined the United States Army in December of 1944. He was part of the 38th Cyclone Division, as well as the 86th Blackhawk Division and served in the South Pacific during WWII until November of 1946.
After five years of anticipation, on May 7, 1948, he married Audrey Rosenbaum at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morrison. The love that Don and Audrey shared was inspiring and the time they had together was a gift that most will never know. Together, they enjoyed more than 72 years of love, friendship and marriage.
Don worked as a supervisor at Lake to Lake Dairy in Denmark and was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church where he held several offices on the Church Council. He was also a member of the VFW in Denmark.
Don was an incredibly hard-working family man and was always tinkering with a new project. He spent countless hours with each of his sons, Daniel and Douglas, helping to build their respective lifelong homes - guiding, teaching and making memories along the way. He taught his family to work hard, be thankful for what they have, do right by others and thank the Lord for what He has given.
Don enjoyed hunting and fishing “up north,” making homemade potato guns, rigging the player piano up for his three granddaughters to enjoy, camping and gardening. There was even a friendly rivalry between their long-time neighbor to see who would get the first tomato on the vine every summer! Above all, Don enjoyed spending his time with his family.
Don will be loving missed by his wife, Audrey, his sons, Daniel (Jean) Nohr of Maribel, Wisconsin and Douglas (Terri) Nohr, also of Maribel. He leaves behind three granddaughters who adored him; Sarah (Sean) Fracek of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Heather (Dan) Nohr-Valley of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Jessica Nohr of Washington D.C.
Preceding Don in death were his parents, two sisters, Deloris (Alfred) Wendland, Eldora (Michael) Tisler, sister-in-law, Myrtle (Ted) Lemke and brothers-in-law, Elmer Treichel and Eugene Plate.
In keeping with Don’s wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date.
Don’s family would like to thank Dawn and the entire staff at Wayside Parkview Estates for the support, kindness and care given to Don and the entire family during this time. The family also wishes to thank the social workers, nurses and staff at Unity Hospice for the care given to Don during his final days.
