Donald J Gibbons

February 19, 1935 — September 26, 2018

Donald J. Gibbons, age 83 of Green Bay, formerly of Wayside, beloved husband of Marianne Van Lanen, passed away at home due to complications of polycystic kidney disease on September 26, 2018. Don was born on February 19, 1935 in Wayside, Wisconsin, son of William and Kathryn (Roberts) Gibbons. He graduated from East De Pere High School in 1953. On May 17, 1960, he married the love of his life, Marianne Van Lanen at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in De Pere.

Don worked as a carpenter for Carpenters Local 1146 for many years. He was also a proud member of the Wayside/Morrison Lions Club. He spent much of his free time helping family, friends and neighbors with numerous projects. He also enjoyed woodworking, reading and playing cards. He will be remembered most as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marianne; his children; Amy (Richard) Underwood, Jeff (Dawn) Gibbons, Jennifer (Chris) Norton and Sue Ann (Robb Williams) Patterson, grandchildren; Zach Albers, Josh (Casie) Schisel, Trevor (Katie) Boettcher, Kelsey (Brad) LaPierre, Bridget (DJ) Ferron, Miranda and Reid Patterson and his great grandchildren; Adalynn, Alivia, Aiden Schisel, Deryn Surdam, Grayson LaPierre, Madison and Parker Ferron. He is further survived by his sister, Mary Schwister, sisters in law; Carol (Bill) Felber, Arleen (Bob) Grignon and Sharon Van Lanen, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death are his parents, brother and sister in law, Jack and Joyce Gibbons, brother and sister in law, Gerry and Peg Gibbons, brother Bill Gibbons, brother in law Norm Schwister, father and mother in law, Elmer and Minnie Van Lanen and brother in law, Jim Van Lanen.

Family and friends may gather at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave, De Pere on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 beginning at 4:00 pm, until 7:30pm, with a prayer service concluding the evening. Visitation will continue at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 3425 Willow Road, Green Bay ater 10:00 am, Thursday, October 4, 2018 until the memorial mass at 11:00 am with Rev. Daniel Viertel officiating. Inurnment will take place in St. John Catholic Cemetery in the Town of Morrison. Cotter Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
