Donald "Don" Rueckl

February 15, 1923 — February 9, 2013

Donald J. Rueckl, a lifelong resident of Luxemburg died on Saturday, February 9, 2013, seven days before he would have celebrated his 90th birthday. He was born the youngest son of the late George Rueckl, Sr. and Alice (DeBauche) Rueckl.. After graduating from Luxemburg High School he studied welding. He worked as a welder at the Manitowoc Shipyards until 1944 when he was drafted into the United States Navy. During his first 10-day leave, he married his sweetheart Beatrice (Ropson) Rueckl on July 12, 1944, at St. Louis Church in Dyckesville. They spent 55 wonderful years together until her death in 1999. The remainder of his professional life was spent in the automobile industry, retiring as Service Manager from Denil Cadillac. After retiring he spent many hours volunteering at the Kewaunee County Aging Resource Center. Don spent many years as an active member of the Luxemburg School Board. He was a member of the American Legion Ralph Kline Post 262, The Knights of Columbus, the St. Joseph Society, the Korean War Veterans’ Association and the Luxemburg Chamber of Commerce, receiving the Community Service Award in 2008. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Parish in Luxemburg. He was a proud founding member and stockholder of North Brook Country Club where he spent many hours enjoying the game of golf and socializing with family and friends. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His wit, charm and warm personality will be greatly missed. Don is survived by his four children; Barbara Rueckl, Green Bay; Ann (Tom) Conway, Madison; Amy (Scot) Madson, Todd (Mary) Rueckl, Green Bay; seven grandchildren, Colleen (Tim) Gumm; Camille Conway (Marshall Ogren); Patrick (Carrie Lou) Madson; Adam (Carrie Anne) Madson; Maggie (Chris) Boland; Leslie (Luke) Kabat and Karli Rueckl; nine great grandchildren; Ella, Bennett, Addalynn and Griffin Madson, Jax Madson , Aurelia and Richard Boland, Oscar and Damien Gumm; one sister-in-law, Bernice Libal; one brother-in-law, Joseph Queoff; special relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Jane and Jennifer; brothers and sisters-in-law, George Jr. and Mildred (Dhuey) Rueckl; Milton and Pearl Rueckl; Berdine Queoff; Barbara Ropson; one brother-in-law, Maurice Libal. Family and friends may call at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, on Thursday, February 14, 2013 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., concluding with a prayer service lead by Deacon Don Ropson, Don’s nephew. Visitation will continue on Friday, February 15, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1412 Main St., Luxemburg from 9:00A.M. to 10:45 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00A.M. with Rev. Milton Suess officiating. Interment in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
