Donald "Don" Ebsch

Donald J. Ebsch, 90, passed away the morning of Sunday, May 25 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Iris, his daughter Christine and son-in-law Steven Taylor, his grandson Nicholas Taylor and grandson-in-law Casey Paulozzi, granddaughter Natalie Taylor and granddaughter-in-law Katie Betry, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher and Martha (Krueger) Ebsch, and his brother, Henry J. (Theresa) Ebsch of Menominee, Michigan. Don was born on February 5, 1924 in Quinnesec, Michigan. He graduated from Menominee High School in 1942. He bravely served in the 104th Infantry Division of the United States Army in World War II, during which time he was captured by German troops in Inden and imprisoned at the Stalag IV-B prisoner-of-war camp near the town of Mühlberg. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds suffered during the war. Upon returning to the United States, he enrolled at Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana, where he studied accounting. He later owned and operated Printmark Inc, an offset printing business, in Amherst, Wisconsin until his retirement in 1990. Don spent 42 years in Amherst, Wisconsin before relocating to Green Bay. He enjoyed a diverse array of hobbies including playing the accordion, gardening, spending time at his log cabin in Door County, and attending his grandchildren’s many sporting events and concerts. Don was a member of the DAV and VFW. He was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers. Family and friends may visit at the Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave, De Pere, on Wednesday, May 28, after 4 PM. A service will begin at 6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established. The family would like to extend their warm thanks to Lee Counard for nominating Don as a Hometown Hero, the Jordan family, and John Maino for including Don in his book “Frontlines Volume III: ETO (European Theatre of Operations).” Also, thank you to the physicians and staff of Green Bay Oncology, especially Dr. Groteluschen, Dr. Blank, and Tara Lien, ANP-C; Cindy Dart of Home Instead Senior Care; as well as the nurses and staff on the ninth floor at St. Vincent Hospital for their compassionate care provided to Don.
