Dolores (Wanek) Berger

Dolores Marie Berger, 88, Denmark, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Harmony of Denmark. She was born July 23, 1926 to William and Mary Wanek. She married Victor Berger on January 2, 1946 and farmed in the Rosecrans area until 1977, when they retired to Denmark. Dolores enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, baking (kolaches, kneecaps, tortes, red velvet cakes for bingo night, rye bread, sauerkraut and potato dumplings), playing sheephead and 10,000/dice games, volunteering at Bornemann Home and Meals on Wheels, and was a member of the Altar Society. Surviving are her two children: Mary (Chuck) Schleis and Jerry (Nancy) Berger; 5 grandchildren: Brigitte Berger, Todd (Kristi) Berger, Nicki (Dan) Styka, Andy Schleis and Jill (Patrick) Dumas; 4 great-grandchildren: Warren and Theresa Berger, Alex and Zach Styka. Also surviving are 4 sisters-in-law: Sr. Karen Anne Berger, Marilyn Peterman, Dorothy Peterman and Carol Peterman; a special niece Mary Kvitek, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews and special friends, Betty and Harold Malach. She was preceded in death by her husband Victor, her parents, brothers, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Family and friends may visit at All Saints Catholic Church, 125 St. Claude St., Denmark, on Monday, February 9, 2015 from 2p.m. until the hour of Mass at 4p.m. with the Rev. Kevin Ori officiating. Dolores was the kindest, most giving child of God. Her faith was her guide every day she walked this earth. She was born with “angel wings” and upon her death she received a second pair.
