Dennis Lyons

Dennis Lyons, age 72, passed away surrounded by loved ones on November 17th, 2023. Dennis was born April 8, 1951, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin to Francis and Mabel (Heiser) Lyons. Dennis was a 1969 graduate of Denmark High School. Upon graduation, he worked for Jenquin Silo Construction. He then entered the Navy for 7 years, sailing the high seas. Upon discharge, he began working at the US Postal Service until his retirement. Dennis enjoyed traveling and living in Cancun every year for several months. He had many interests including feeding birds, reading newspapers, and telling stories about his Navy days.

Dennis met his longtime companion and partner, Sara Patricia Baquedano, in Cancun and was a part of her family. His surviving siblings include Mary and Bob Remiker, Mike and Kathy Lyons, Tom and Lolita Lyons, Jane and Dan Hertel, Nic and Deb Lyons, and Katie Lyons and Ken Koenig along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Patrick and Francis. Dennis had many close friends whom he enjoyed spending time with, especially his coffee friends at the Webster McDonalds.

Visitation will take place Saturday, November 25 at St James Church in Cooperstown from 9-10:45 am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 with Fr. Santiago Turiano Jr. officiating. Full military honors to follow with burial in St. James cemetery.

Dennis lived life to the fullest in his own unique style. He always had a POD (plan of the day). We will miss his quirky humor, his laughter, and many catchphrases (“I’m a Navy man”, “The long-lost sailor”, “Call off the search”, “The Figure 7”, etc.). We would like to express our deep gratitude to Sara Patricia who cared attentively to Dennis’ needs as well as his neighbors, especially Steve Lealou and family, who helped in innumerable ways. We are forever grateful.
