David Hoppe

April 10, 1948 — September 29, 2022

David Joseph Hoppe, 74, sadly passed away on September 29, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with kidney disease. Born in 1948 to Virginia (Jean) Homan and Hubert Hoppe, he grew up and matured very fast, being an only child. During his youth, David became an Eagle Scout, played football for Marinette High School as a Running Back and then football and basketball for Premontre Cadets in Green Bay. He continued to play football for EAU Claire College and all other sports offered making the Peshtigo newspaper several times for his athletic talents, including the Crivitz Waterskiing Club that put-on shows for the community. He was also the treasurer of the water-ski club. When he was 18, he left home to become a scholar, adventurer, and a rebel. David worked as a general contractor with his own company as well as overseas in Saudi Arabia. He finished his working career as a truck driver and ended up driving over 3 million miles nationwide; being one of the best in the trade. He had a passion for many things; his work, his family, riding his Harley cross country, skydiving, sailing in the S.F. Bay, camping, and fishing.

He met Sherry in 1971. They soon got married and then separated ways in 1987. Together they had two children, Justin and Sara. David proved to be a loving and caring father. He always made time for his children and maintained an amazing relationship with them throughout their adulthood. David involved his children in everything he did. He even brought the kids along with him to work on construction sites or take them on long haul trucking trips. He never held back the truth or distorted reality with his children and taught them that truth was the best virtue a person could have no matter the consequences from the result of it. David was not only a straight shooter of a father, but also a wonderful companion to Rhonda who became the light of his life in 2015 to present. Once met, never forgotten by all. His family will miss him dearly.

“Dad, you are in our thoughts and prayers every single day. I cannot put into words how much we will miss you. I know that you are going to a place much better than here, where you will be treated like the angel that you are.”

David is survived by his companion Rhonda; two children Justin and Sara; his six grandchildren Devan, Joscelyn (Rylie), Hunter, Kain, Kye, and Ariya; along with his two great grandchildren Holden and Hayden and cousin Llyn Tuyls.

David will be laid to rest next to his beloved mother Jean and stepfather Ken Wardecke at First Baptist Cemetery. A Memorial service at Lena Seventh-Day Adventists Church will be announced for David Hoppe. Anyone is welcome to pay their respects and share stories.

Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, is assisting the family with arrangements.
