Daniel Paul Ritter

Daniel Paul Ritter (born September 21, 1938 in La Crosse, WI) died peacefully on January 5, 2017 surrounded by his family after 78 years. He was united in marriage to Amy Brown in 1974, and they shared 42 years of marriage and two children together. Survivors include his wife Amy (Brown), his two sons David (Rachel Kohlhagen) of Green Bay, WI and Michael (Susie Lund) of Seattle, WA, his sister, Colette Vogl (Don) of Fort Collins, CO, and his brother David Ritter (Cindy) of Wheaton, IL. Dan lived a life of service personally and professionally. He worked as a social worker for Brown County for 32 years retiring in 2007. He was selfless and always put the needs of others before his own. Dan was an active community volunteer for causes he believed in including social justice and volunteer driving. Dan remained physically active and went to the YMCA almost daily. He loved to bike on the Fox River Trail and kayak all over Wisconsin, especially Lake Superior. He was an avid reader and never missed an opportunity to make a pun. If there were a fork in the road, Dan would always take it (or at least the high road). He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Rose Ann (Ritter) Helton. Family and friends may visit at Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 2270 S. Oneida Street, Green Bay, on Monday, January 9, from 9:00am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with the Rev. John H. Harper officiating.
