Cynthia J. Volz

April 30, 1950 — March 26, 2024

Cynthia Jane Volz, 73, of Green Bay, passed away on March 26, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born April 30, 1950, in Beaver Dam to Martin and Gertrude (Christian) Keup and was a faithful, lifelong member of the Lutheran Church -- Missouri Synod.

Cynthia grew up on the family farm in Theresa and loved the scenic, rolling countryside. After graduating Mayville High School as the salutatorian of her class, Cynthia furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh, earning degrees in English and Education.

Cindy was united in marriage to Larry Volz, on May 18, 1980, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brown Deer, marking the beginning of a shared life filled with love and devotion.

In addition to her primary calling as a loving wife and mother, Cindy joyfully taught English as a Second Language at Literacy Green Bay for 24 years. Her true passion was helping others and she impacted the lives of over 800 adult students from 28 different countries. Her legacy in education and longtime service to others was recognized in 2015 when she was awarded the Lifetime of Literacy Award.

An avid reader, world traveler, bicyclist and flower enthusiast, Cindy loved spending time outdoors and cherished tending her many flower gardens. Affectionately known as “Grammy,” she also treasured spending time with her four grandchildren, who are her special pride and joy.

In May 2023, Cindy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Despite setbacks along the way, she endured surgery, chemotherapy and a clinical trial at the National Cancer Institute. Cindy was a proud “Whipple Warrior” and courageously faced all of her health challenges with hope, faith and the joy of the Lord.

Cynthia is survived by her loving husband of 43 years and family members, including: daughter, Lana (Michael Trawicki) Volz (Tucson, Arizona); son, Nathan (Sarah) Volz (Mequon); four grandchildren, Stella (9) and Christina (5) Trawicki and Madison (4) and James (5 months) Volz; brother, Greg (Kathy) Keup (Theresa); brother-in-law, Lyndle Volz (Stuart, Florida); and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenneth Keup; father-in-law, Victor Volz; mother-in-law, Myrene Volz; and sister-in-law, Kay Volz.

Cynthia’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Faith Lutheran Church, 2335 S. Webster Ave., Green Bay. A link to livestream the service will be posted at this link prior to the service: https://vimeo.com/event/13283. Burial will take place at Hochheim Cemetery (Town of Herman). Visitation will be Thursday at the church from 9:30 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift to Cindy’s Pancan.org tribute page (https://secure.pancan.org/site/TR/DIY/DIYTeamraisers?px=3654201&pg=personal&fr_id=2443) or a donation to Literacy Green Bay would be appreciated (https://literacygreenbay.kindful.com/?campaign=1062350).

Cynthia took comfort in and lived out her confirmation verse, John 15:5: I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
