Claude "Christy" Christensen

March 14, 1924 — March 23, 2010

Claude E. (Christy) Christensen, 86, Denmark, died on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Bellin Memorial Hospital of congestive heart failure, with his family by his side. He was born to Christ and Amanda (Rasmussen) Christensen, March 14, 1924. He attended grade school in the town of New Denmark and graduated from Denmark High School in 1941. He served his country in the United States Army First Calvary Division in the Pacific Theatre from October 1945 to November 1946. December 1946, he was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant. On July 28, 1951 he married Bernice (Beanie) Karbon at Melnik Presbyterian Church. He had 58 years of marriage to his honey. Together they have one daughter, Cindy, who lives in Lake Villa, Illinois, with her husband, Patrick Goheen. He worked at the Co-op grocery store, Blue Moon and his final destination was a Purchasing Agent for Oil Rite Corporation and retired after 39 years. In his retirement, he also enjoyed working at MI Bank and the Denmark State Bank. He was a member of the Denmark VFW Post 6705, Zion United Methodist Church, where he held the trusteeship for the cemetery fund for many years as well as other offices. He enjoyed the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers. He is survived by his wife, Bernice; daughter, Cindy (Patrick), and two step grandsons, Sean and Christopher. Also surviving are sisters, Viola Trudeau, Eloise Watruba, and Jean Heurth; brother, Herman (Pete) Christensen; sisters-in-law, Irvyne Christensen, Marcella Balzan, Rose Karbon; brother-in-law, John Karbon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Hazel Hansen, Olga Christensen, Marcella Buckenheiser; brother, Norman Christensen; sisters-in-law, Norma Christensen, Gladys Mathis, Ethel Thompson, Adeline Cookle, Rose Cookle, Eleanor Karbon and Mary Karbon; brothers-in-law, Norman (Sparky) Trudeau, Bob Buckenheiser, Jerry Heurth, Milton Hansen, Howard Karbon, Gordy Karbon, Robert Thompson, Tony Balzan and Lester Mathis. Family and friends may call Friday, March 26, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Zion United Methodist Church, Denmark. Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the church, with the Rev. Patricia Knutson officiating. Knutson-Cotter Funeral Home, Denmark, 863-2411, is assisting the family.
