Claire Marie Steinberger

November 23, 1942 — July 31, 2020

Claire M. Steinberger, age 77 of Denmark, passed away early Friday morning, July 31, 2020 at Aurora Hospital in Green Bay. She was born on November 23, 1942 in Green Bay, the daughter of the late Sylvester and Mabel (Vanden Avond) O’Leary. As the second of eight children, she grew up on the family farm, which is presently the site of East Towne Mall. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1961. On October 5, 1963, she married Edward Steinberger at St. Bernard’s Church in Green Bay. Claire was one who enjoyed getting the family together for a meal. If there wasn’t a holiday, she made one up. She loved cooking and baking, especially pies, and she was affectionately known as “the pie lady”. She worked the family farm for many years with her husband and children.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Edward, four children; Jim (Joy) Steinberger, Denmark; Mike (Becky) Steinberger, Denmark; Kathy (Gary) Garske, Amhurst, WI and Tom (Connie) Steinberger, Burlington, WI, six grandchildren; Courtney (friend Jacob Borth) Steinberger; Meghan and Nicole Steinberger; Evan, Steven and David Steinberger. Claire is further survived by her siblings; Mary Ann Devroy, Sylvia (Bob) Pott, Robert (Cathy) O’Leary, Mike (Alice) O’Leary, Tom (Kathy) O’Leary, Dan (Mary Joan) O’Leary, Pat O’Leary and his friend, Mary Edmunston, brother in law, Gerald (Diane) Steinberger, as well as many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Preceding Claire in death are her parents, her mother and father in law; Edward and Emily Steinberger, two nephews; Matt Steinberger and Brian O’Leary.
Family and friends may gather at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 3425 Willow Road Green Bay (Bellevue) on Saturday, August 8, 2020 beginning at 9:00am until 10:45am, the service will follow at 11:00am, Rev. Dennis Ryan officiating. Due to the current restrictions regarding Covid-19, wearing masks is requested, please bring a mask to wear. The service will be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend and can be found at the Prince of Peace Facebook page, POPGB54311. Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family
The family would like to commend the nurses at Aurora Hospital for their exemplary treatment of Claire during the last month of her life.
