Chester Hartel

Chester Hartel, 88, De Pere, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011. He was born May 17, 1923 in Milwaukee, son of the late Gustav and Josephine Hartel. He graduated from Wauwatosa High School in 1943 and was a 1949 graduate of U.W. Madison. A structural engineer, Chester worked for over 30 years with the same firm and was instrumental in the planning and construction of the Dane County Coliseum. He resided in Madison for many years and moved to Arizona after retirement to avoid the winter weather. He later returned to Madison and most recently had resided with his son and daughter-in-law in Denmark until he moved to the Rennes Health Center in De Pere. Survivors include a son: Dan (Wendy) Hartel; a daughter, Mary Jo (Daryl) Moustner; a sister: Jean (Gordon) Taller; a niece: Gail; and nephews: Mitch (Carol) and Tim Taller. Services are private. Cotter Funeral Home, De Pere, assisted the family with arrangements.
