Charles "Chuck" Skornicka

November 21, 1927 — May 4, 2016

Charles Chuck J. Skornicka Jr., age 88, of Denmark, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016. He was born on November 21, 1927, in Green Bay, to the late Charles and Frances (Felix) Skornicka. Chuck graduated from Denmark High School in 1945 and served in the United States Navy as Pharmacist Mate 3rd Class from 1945-1947. On July 20, 1963, he married Mary Lee Schroeder at St. Patrick’s church in Green Bay. Chuck adored his wife and in their 52 years together, they enjoyed dancing, golfing, sporting events and time spent with friends and family - especially with his daughters and granddaughters. Chuck would often say… “Mary, we are very blessed to have such a wonderful family.” Chuck had a 40-year career in banking working as Cashier and Security Officer for Badger State Bank, Valley Bank Corporation and MI Bank. After retiring, his passion for golf continued as a member of the Wander Springs senior league. Chuck was very active in his community. He was a lifetime member of All Saints Parish in Denmark and throughout the years, served as an usher, was on the All Saints School Board and belonged to the Holy Name Society. He was also appointed to the Denmark Village Water Board. Anyone who knew Chuck knew his love of sports – as a player, as a coach and as a fan. For many years he played with local baseball teams, was a player/coach with the Denmark City Basketball team and coached grade school basketball. Most notably, Chuck was the coach for 30 years of his beloved Cubs in the Denmark Youth Baseball league. As a fan, he would cheer on the Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers. Chuck is survived by his wife Mary, his two children, Beth (Keith) Decker and Jean (Jerry Conard) Skornicka; three grandchildren, Alexandra (fiancée Kyle Stoltz) Decker, Claire Decker, Chloe Decker and a wonderful surprise granddaughter to be born in August; great-granddaughter, Colette Stoltz; nephews, John (Diana) and David (Carol); and cousins. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Lucille; parents-in-law, Arthur Schroeder and Regina and Arlin Bergelin; and grandson, Isaiah Decker. Family and friends may visit at Knutson-Cotter Funeral Home, 536 County Road R, Denmark, on Sunday, May 8, 2016 from 4-7pm, with a prayer service at 7pm. Visitation will continue on Monday, May 9 at All Saints Catholic Church, Denmark, from 9:30am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial for Chuck will be celebrated at 11:00am Monday with Fr. Bill O'Brien officiating. Interment in All Saints Cemetery, Denmark. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com.
