Carl Wellington Giesler, 88, passed away at a local nursing home on April 21, 2011. He was the son of Carl and Laura Dickey Giesler. He married Marjorie Rollin on June 29, 1946. He was a graduate of East High School, Class of ’41, and attended Moravian College, Princeton University, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, as an Electrical Engineer. Upon graduation he joined Wisconsin Public Service as an Engineer-in-training and ended his career as Vice-President Power production. He loved the company and his job and worked there almost 39 years. When the Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant was built he was appointed to lead the Nuclear Department and spent a year in training at the Westinghouse Nuclear Power School in Pennsylvania. He became a pioneering executive in the nuclear power industry and in 1985 was awarded the Distinguished Service Citation from the University of Wisconsin College of Engineering for his contributions to Nuclear Engineering. He was a veteran of World War II and served as a Staff Sergeant in the 591st Field Artillery of the 106th Infantry Division, seeing action in Belgium and Germany in the Battle of the Bulge. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; a son David (wife, Barbara) and their children - Eugene and Stephanie, and a great-granddaughter, Jade Giesler; a son Jeffrey (wife, Sandra) and their children - Lynn, Paul, Erin, and Leslie, all of Green Bay; a daughter, Nancy of Madison; a daughter, Ellen of Green Bay; and brother-in-law, Norbert “Nubs” (Ruth) Rollin. He is also survived by two brothers: Paul of Green Bay, and Rev. John Giesler (Barbara) of Winston-Salem, NC; and two sisters: Grace Dittmer of Nooksack, WA, and Ann LaFortune (Rev. Joe LaFortune) of Fargo, ND. He was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas and Brian; and two sisters Jane Noth and Ruth Neklewitz. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 130 St. Matthew St. Allouez, on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 11:00 am. Visitation will precede the Mass from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Tuesday. Entombment will be at the Allouez Catholic Mausoleum. Cotter Funeral Home, De Pere, is assisting the family.
