Carl N. Laabs, age 60, passed away November 5, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer with his loving wife and family by his side. He was the son of the late Raymond and Veronica (Beining) Laabs. He graduated from East De Pere High School. After working at Packerland Packing, Carl was finally swayed by his father-in-law, Les, to start a new trade in the construction business, where he worked for 20 years until his retirement. On April 19, 1974, Carl married Sandy Brosz, and together they shared 39 years of marriage and three children. He had a tremendous amount of close friends through life, including those who worked with him in construction and knew of the constant pranks he pulled; even knowing the name he gave his hammer. Some took it is stride, some got him back, but all was in plain old fun. Those who shared in his passions of fishing or hunting, whether close to home, up north at the cabin, in Wyoming, Idaho, or up in Canada, shared camaraderie and even a few beers. He thoroughly enjoyed each and every trip, and who he was with. He had a lifelong goal he set for himself for hunting, to have a certain number of bucks, and not only achieved that goal, but surpassed it with help from his son, Casey. His family meant the world to him, and he loved the special time he could spend with his two beautiful grandchildren, Blaine and Braelyn, simply known as “PaPa. Carl is survived by his “Toots”, Sandy; children: Ginger (Jeremy) Laabs, Casey (Sarah) Laabs and their children, Blaine and Braelyn; Melissa (Jesse) Laabs; sister, Janet (Roy) Peters; sister-in-law, Lindy (Paul) Stanford; many nieces and nephews, and an abundance of close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Les and Mary (Gerhard) Brosz; brother-in-law, Terry “Bruiser” Brosz and special family member, Dale Kroll. Friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave, De Pere, on Friday, November 8, from 4-6pm. Funeral service at 6:00pm. He will forever be loved and missed by his family and friends and anyone who he touched throughout his life.
