Bonnie C. (Smits) Brosteau

Bonnie C. Brosteau, 71, of De Pere, passed away June 6, 2014 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born June 19, 1942 in Rockford, Illinois as one of three children to Harold “Dutch” and Irene (Hudson) Smits. Bonnie married Mike Brosteau on April 4, 1964 at St. Mary Church in De Pere, and they recently celebrated 50 years together, along with their two children, spouses, and grandchildren. During retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, her trips to Europe, spending time at her winter home in Florida, golfing and many other activities with her friends, singing in choirs and spending time in her personalized yellow golf cart. In addition to her husband of 50 years, Mike, she is survived by two children and their families: Scott (Mary) Brosteau and children: Mitchell and Kirstyn; Amy (Tim) Grovogel and children: Kennedy and Sawyer; a sister: Mary Kay Gabriel; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Tom (Bonnie J.) Brosteau and Kay (Ron) Blohowiak; as well as other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Irene; brother: Tom Smits and a brother-in-law: Chuck Gabriel. Family and friends may visit at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4805 Sportsman Drive, Ledgeview, on Tuesday, June 10, from 9:00am until 10:45am. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am Tuesday with the Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Entombment in Allouez Chapel Mausolem. Cotter Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for pancreatic cancer research. A special thank you to her loving sister, Mary Kay, as well as the staffs of Unity Hospice, Cornerstone Hospice and Green Bay Oncology for the exceptional care and concern shown to Bonnie and her family.
