Betty J. Murphy

Betty Murphy, age 89 of Green Bay, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 7, 1930 to the late Mike and Mildred (Erickson) Olson in Nevada, Iowa. She graduated from Nevada High School and then attended McConnell Airline School, Minneapolis and went on to work for TWA for the next six years. Betty was able to travel worldwide, in the US, Europe, as well as Acapulco and Jamaica. In October of 1957 she married Dr. Thomas E. Murphy. She enjoyed the quietness of Door County, especially cottage life in Sister Bay with family. She took great pleasure in volunteering in the community with Make a Wish, Unity Hospice, Service League, Paul’s Pantry, Antiquarian Society and De Pere Woman’s League. She especially enjoyed visiting those who were homebound or those in nursing homes. Above all, her greatest achievement was that of wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her daughters; Teresa (Mike) Snyder, Kathleen (Jeff) Aubry and Patty (Paul) Bury, grandchildren; Tom (Lindsay) Snyder, Jenna (Stefan) Buetow, Patrick (Holly) Snyder, Elisabeth and Grant Aubry and Jack and Annalise Bury. She is further survived by great grandchildren; Madelyn, Flynn, Bennett, Jillian and Freya, brother, Larry (Carole) Olson, as well as many other loving relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 22 years, Dr. Thomas E. Murphy, her parents and her twin sisters, Mary and Marie in infancy.
Family and friends may gather at St. Matthew's Parish, 130 St. Matthew Street, Green Bay, on Friday, January 10, 2020, beginning at 9:00am until 10:45am a mass will follow at 11:00am with Rev. Robert Kabat officiating. Burial will take place in the Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to an organization of your choice or in her memory, do or share her favorite things; visit or call a friend in need, read to a child or donate books.
