Audrey Emma Nohr

Audrey Emma (Rosenbaum) Nohr, 94, of Denmark passed away peacefully January 27, 2022, at the Jack and Ingrid Meng Center, Unity Hospice residence.

Born August 28, 1927, to the late Gustave and Martha (Ihlenfeld) Rosenbaum. Audrey met the love of her life, Donald Nohr, at the age of 16 while riding the bus to school. After she graduated form East De Pere High School, Audrey moved to Milwaukee and worked as a secretary for an insurance agency while Don enlisted in the United States Army. After he returned from service, the two got engaged, and Audrey moved back to the area and worked as a live-in housekeeper for the Ewing family in De Pere until she and Don were married. After five years of anticipation, on May 7, 1948, Audrey married Don at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morrison. The love, faith, friendship and marriage that Audrey and Don shared for 72 strong years was inspiring, special and rare.

Those who knew Audrey will speak of her kind smile; a kindness that stemmed from her love of the Lord. Audrey was a longtime member of the Ladies Aide & choir at Christ Lutheran Church of Denmark. She held numerous jobs throughout her lifetime in addition to being a loving wife, an attentive mother and an outstanding grandmother. Audrey worked as a secretary, a waitress at the Terrace Room at H.C. Prange, an aide for Denmark School District, and for Grieling’s Greenhouse.

Audrey was many things; idle was never one of them. She had hobbies galore, from cooking, gardening, and playing cards, to antiquing, playing the piano, camping with Don, baking pies for her sons and crafting. Audrey was forever a creator who paid special attention to the finest details. Step into her home and you may have found her bejeweling intricate Christmas ornaments, carefully decorating blown eggs for Easter, drying fragile Queens Anne’s lace to mimic snowflakes as holiday decorations, tending to temperamental flowers in her garden, or making one of her incredibly “putzy” desserts. She was constantly creating something, and it was always finished to perfection. That included her baking. As her family and granddaughters will attest, she always had a special treat when you stopped to visit. Audrey shared her creative talents with her daughters-in-law and granddaughters, and they will forever be grateful.

Audrey was a social butterfly, making friends everywhere she went. She loved entertaining and spending time with her sister, sisters-in-law, and her dear friends Kathy Vandehey and Carol LaCourt. She was easy to talk to, never judging, always offering a kind word, sound advise and a knowing smile. Audrey instilled in each of us that at the end of day, we should be thankful for our family, and thank the Lord for what He has given.

Audrey will forever be missed by her surviving sons, Daniel (Jean) Nohr of Maribel, WI and Douglas (Terri) Nohr also of Maribel. Audrey leaves behind three granddaughters who adored her; Sarah (Sean) Fracek of Milwaukee, WI, Heather (Dan) Nohr-Valley of Green Bay, WI and Jessica Nohr of Washington D.C., her sister Doris (Eugene) Plate; nieces Barbara Natzke and Karen Bain; and nephews Lloyd and Dennis Lemke.

Preceding Audrey in death were husband Donald Nohr; her parents, Gustave and Martha (Ihlenfeldt) Rosenbaum; sister Myrtle (Ted) Lemke; and infant brother, Carl Rosenbaum; sisters-in-law, Delores Wendland and Eldora Tisler; and brothers-in-law, Alfred Wendland, Michael Tisler, Elmer Treichel, Eugene Plate and Ted Lemke.

In keeping with Audrey’s wishes, a small memorial service will be at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church – Denmark Saturday February 19, 2022, with visitation from 1:30pm to 2:00pm, and Service at 2:00pm with Pastor Bruce Schwark officiating. The family encourages the use of masks and social distancing.

The family of Audrey Nohr would like to thank Dawn and the entire staff at Wayside Parkview Estates for the support, kindness and care given to Audrey and the entire family during this time. The family also wants to thank the nurses and staff at Unity Hospice, the Jack and Ingrid Meng Residence, for the care given to Audrey during her final days.
