Ann Dorr Mortell

October 21, 1933 — January 6, 2013

Ann Dorr Mortell (79) passed away on January 6, 2013 peacefully at her family home in De Pere. She was born October 21, 1933 in Green Bay to the late Maxwell Genevieve Murphy. She was a graduate of St Joseph Academy and attended Northwestern until her courtship to her late husband. She married her high school sweetheart, Gerald J Mortell, Jr. on May 30, 1955. Jerry preceded her in death on April 23, 2006. Her interests in life included raising five children and sharing with them her love of tennis and golf. She was a founding owner of the Western Racquet club in the mid 1970’s, and a very competitive tennis player, winning multiple tennis tournaments in the area. She was inducted into the Brown County Tennis Hall of Fame in 1985 and enjoyed coaching tennis teams for St. Joseph Academy, Premontre, and St Norbert College. Her love of golf began when she was a young girl and continued until she could no longer swing the club. Ann Dorr won the Oneida Golf Country Club championship in 1962 while pregnant with her daughter Marcia and in 1965 while pregnant with her daughter Susan. She had three holes in one as a member at Oneida, and also served as President of Oneida Women’s Organization in 1965. She then organized a golf event known as the “Adorrable” at Oneida and later at other courses so that she and her friends could share a day of golf and friendship. Ann Dorr was a former President of Service League of Green Bay and has maintained many of her friendships she made there. For over 25 years she spent winters in Jupiter, FL. She was an early member of the Loxahatchee Club and resided on the 18th hole. She played often at Loxahatchee and had five more holes in one over her time there. In 1993 she won the Loxahatchee Member Guest with her friend, Susan Cott. She will be sadly missed by her “snowbird” friends. Since she was a young girl, Ann Dorr spent a great deal of summer time boating in Door County, WI. Her parents went through many sailboats that she and her brother Richard would “crew”. The love of the water, boating and family time were her favorites. She is survived by her children, Barbara Ann Hervey (Scott) in Memphis, TN; Gerald J Mortell, III (Ellen) in Green Bay; Marcia Dorr Blumb (Jeffrey) in Green Bay; Genevieve (Jenny) Mary Mortell in Cromwell, CT; Susan Murphy Mortell in Chicago, IL and, her brother, Richard Murphy in Port St Lucie, FL. She left behind (7) beautiful grandchildren that affectionately called her “Dorr Dorr”, Sarah Elizabeth Patrick (Hervey); Max, Peter, Colleen (Mortell); Griffin and Olivia Ann Dorr (Blumb). Family and friends may call at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 2771 Oakwood Drive, Green Bay, from 9am until the hour of Mass on Thursday, January 10. Memorial Mass will be held at 11am Thursday, with Fr. Paul Demuth officiating and Fr. Richard Getchel and Fr. Jim Baraniak, O.Praem concelebrating. Cotter Funeral Home and Cremation Services, De Pere, is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for Notre Dame Academy, Green Bay, WI and St. Benedict of Auburndale, Memphis, TN. The family wishes to extend to all the caregivers (Emily, Jill, Linda and Mary) at Home Instead our deepest gratitude. We couldn’t have done it without you! We also want to express our sincere thanks to Hospice Advantage. You were the best!
