Alice L. Sonnabend, age 93, of De Pere and formerly of Manitowoc, passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of the late Emil and Millie (Kurth) Abel was born April 15, 1922 and raised in Reedsville. She married Rueben Sonnabend on August 28, 1940, and he preceded her in death on May 9, 1977. In October of 1953, Alice was the first woman to give birth to conjoined twins in the state of Wisconsin. Rueben and Alice farmed for many years in Reedsville before later moving to Manitowoc, where she worked for many years at Mirro Aluminum. She loved gardening and baking. She enjoyed flowers and dancing to polka and waltz music. Survivors include her children: Roger (Nancy) Sonnabend of De Pere, Sandra Blauert of De Pere, Sharon (Tom) Parker of Hudson, WI, William (Marilyn) Sonnabend of De Pere and Debra (Jerry) Qualman of Onalaska, WI; grandchildren: Salena (Jerry) Laes, Lisa VanStraten, Angela (Chad) Smet, Jennifer (Chad) Cherney, Tom (Beverly) Parker, Suzanne (Dan) Korum, Carrie Cherney, Michael and Caitlin Qualman; 15 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law: Dorothy Sonnabend, as well as nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Paul; infant twin daughters at birth; son-in-law Howard Blauert; sister, Jeanette (Leslie) Behnke and a brother-in-law Norbert (Alice) Sonnabend.
