Agnes Julianna (VandenBush) Hettmann, age 90, of Glenmore, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 2, 2018, with her loving family at her side. She was born as a proud Flemish Belgian on January 21, 1928 to Martin and Anna (Clabots) VandenBush in the Town of Humboldt. On April 23, 1949, Agnes married Kenneth Hettmann at St. Mary Catholic Church in Humboldt. Together they farmed in the Town of Glenmore and raised their family for 41 years. They then built their retirement home on the farm. For 16 years, they vacationed in the South Padre Islands and enjoyed time spent at their cottage on Thunder Lake for 35 years. Agnes loved spending time with family.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 70 years, Ken; children: David (Nancy), Mark (Alice Thayse), Darrel (Linda Bougie), Steve (Christy Stodall), Mary (Jim Cisler) and Jeff (Kathy Higgins); 17 grandchildren: Michael Hettmann, Daniel (Jennifer), Ann (John) Noskowiak, Joshua (Jennifer) Hettmann, Sara (Jeff) Reynolds, Keith (Nicole) Hettmann, Eric (Laura) Hettmann, Jenny (Josh) Yuhasey, Matthew (Sara) Hettmann, Jesse (Danielle) Hettmann, Melissa Hettmann, Zachery Hettmann, Emily Hettmann, April (William) Sauer, Brett (Marta) Cisler, Lindsey (Dan) Unright and Nicole Hettmann (fiancé Adam Lemmens); 25 great-grandchildren: Audrey, Allison, Samantha, David, Drew, Peyton, Greg, Rachel, Caleb, Lily, Bennett, Noah, Isaac, Charlotte, Claire, Joyce, Jayne, Cora, Mirabelle, Michael, Ian, Miranda, Laura, Hadley and Evelyn. She is further survived by 2 sisters: Eileen Bredael and Jane Mleziva; Ken’s siblings: Laverne (Bob) Kane and Marlene (Jim) DeMoulin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Anna; brother: Harold (Rita) VandenBush; sister: Emerita (Hank) Hinnendael; brothers and sisters-in-law: Lloyd “Porkey” Bredael, Wencil Mleziva, Pat (Elaine) Kane, Bob (Marion) Hettmann, Ed and Martha Hettmann.
Family and friends may visit at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4805 Sportsman Drive, Ledgeview, on Thursday, December 6, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial for Agnes will be celebrated at 5:00 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Richard Getchel officiating.
