Aaron M. Wanek

Aaron Michael Wanek, 63, a lifelong resident of Denmark, died on Friday, October 29, 2021 in his home. Anyone who knew Aaron, knows he would never miss a Green Bay Packers game. Fittingly, he spent his final night watching the Packers secure an exciting victory.He was born on October 13th, 1958 to the late Norbert and Martha (Gwidt) Wanek and graduated from Denmark High School in 1976. He married Barbara Hlinak on July 21st, 1990 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Tisch Mills. They settled down in Denmark and were blessed with four children. He grew up working on his parent’s farm until he began working at Michiels’ Poured Walls, where he was employed for 15 years. He enjoyed various hobbies throughout his life, including bowling, going to the cabin to hunt with family, and watching Wisconsin sports, especially the Green Bay Packers.            

Aaron was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Barbara, and their children: Sarah (Erik) Johnson of Charlotte, NC, Katie, Abbey, and Mark Wanek, of Denmark; siblings: Suzanne (Dan) Zellner of Denmark, Jacqueline Wanek (Leonard Boltz) of Pearson, and Adrian (Gretchen) Wanek of Green Bay. He is further survived by his mother-in-law, Caroline Hlinak of Tisch Mills; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Susan Hlinak (Richard Pike) of Appleton, Larry (Nancy) Hlinak of Mishicot, William Hlinak of Tisch Mills, and Jerome Hlinak of Tisch Mills; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Norbert and Martha (Gwidt) Wanek and father-in-law Francis Hlinak.     

Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home, 536 County Road R, Denmark, on Thursday, November 4, from 3-7pm. A prayer service will conclude the evening. Visitation will continue on Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 6397 County Highway NN, New Denmark, from 9:30am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with Fr. Xavier Amirtham, O.Praem officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
