About Us

After working at Milprint for about nine years and attending the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science, Jim Cotter joined the Coffey Funeral Home in De Pere, which was located on South Broadway Street, making it the Coffey-Cotter Funeral Home.  When John L. Coffey retired in 1962, Jim Cotter became the sole owner and Cotter Funeral Home was officially founded.  Jim had his first funeral for the family of Jannie Liebergen, on February 22, 1962.  As business began to grow, it became clear that a larger building would be required.  Cotter Funeral Home moved to its current location on Webster Avenue in 1968.  After receiving his Diploma at the Worsham College of Mortuary Science Mike Cotter joined the firm in 1983 making Cotter Funeral Home a second-generation family owned funeral home.  Through the years, Jim and his son Mike set a goal to give each and every family the resources and tools they need to make their lives a little easier during times of grief.  In support of this goal, we are proud to feature a full grief library with literature and videos to help children and adults of any age to deal with their very difficult time.  We also feature pre-planning guides that are available without any cost or obligation.  Most importantly of all, Cotter Funeral Home is proud to remain family owned and family operated so that we may better serve you family for many years to come.
